However, the promo rewards typically provide savings of up to 50% on the cost of award tickets, and the discounted flights can be booked in the month of the promotion for travel through the following months. In this post, we’ll cover the “dets” and get you into a flight on Air France, KLM and it’s newest partner Etihad! However, no Etihad on the latest promo rewards.

What are Air France/KLM Flying Blue Promo Rewards?

Flying Blue Promo Rewards is a monthly promotion offered by the Flying Blue program, which is the frequent flyer program for Air France and KLM. The promotion offers discounts of between 25-50% on select routes and can an amazing deals.

The discount can be applied to any combination of economy, premium economy, and business-class awards, depending on the route and the specifics of the Promo Rewards.  Some Promo Rewards are only applicable to Economy Class tickets.  But the details change each month and may include Premium Economy and Business class too.

The Promo Rewards offer is published every month, and travelers can book select award flights by the end of the month to enjoy promotional pricing. The travel dates for the Promo Rewards are typically between one and six months out, depending on the month.

Promo Rewards tickets are subject to availability. The discount is only applied to the mileage cost, not taxes and fees, and travelers can use their Flying Blue points to redeem for the Promo Rewards.

You can book these flights directly from the Air France or KLM website.    Search for one-way flights and leave the date blank. A calendar view will pop up showing the minimum number of miles needed for a specific date in the month.  The Promo Rewards are typically shown as orange, or at least that’s what I think the color is.  Flying Blue Promo Rewards offers an excellent opportunity to get the most out of your points and miles and travel to Europe for a minimal amount of points.

Earning Flying Blue Miles

There are several ways to earn Flying Blue miles, including:

Flying with Air France or KLM: Travelers can earn Flying Blue miles by flying with Air France or KLM, as well as with partner airlines such as Delta, Alitalia, and Kenya Airways.  If you are not flying Air France frequently enough, this may be a difficult way to earn Flying Blue miles quickly.

Credit card rewards programs: All major credit card travel rewards programs partner with Flying Blue, including Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, and Citi ThankYou Rewards.  Points earned by these credit card companies can be easily transferred to Flying Blue.

Flying Blue Promo Rewards Tips

Follow these tips to maximize the December promo rewards:

  • Book early – The number of seats at the Promo Rewards are limited.  My recommendation is to book them NOW.  If something changes, then you can do that by calling Flying Blue, and pay a fee.
  • Be flexible with dates/routes if possible – If your desired flight is not available at your home airport, look for other airports and take a repositioning flight.
  • Take advantage of transfer bonuses – Keep an eye out for transfer bonuses. As of the post, there appears to be no available transfer bonuses to Flying Blue. But things may change!
  • Already Booked? – Call Flying Blue and ask to get your already booked flight discounted at the Promo Rewards rates.  We’ve have taken advantage of this but had to change the date or time of the flight to take advantage of the Promo Rewards.  Customer service representatives at Flying Blue are great and will assist you along the way.
